I've done this before. Red is really tricky. I tried to dye mine auburn and it turned out fire engine red!

Since you want to go brown, why don't you just by a box without any red in it? Just a natural brown. It's what I did, and it actually turned out the color I wanted. The red will give it that cherry-chocolate color you wanted.

Color removers/strippers are aweful for your hair.
