I'd say in person.
When you tell her that you have more feelings for her, just be calm and cool about. "I really cherish our friendship, and you're a great friend. But, I think that I really like you. I want to remain friends with you no matter what, even if you don't feel the same."
And, well, just don't be all weird.
I was best friends with another male, and he told me that he had feelings for me, and I wasn't into him that way. It got really weird for awhile because he started telling me how he wouldn't go to the Marines just for me, and how we could be "more." Then he wouldn't leave me alone, and I had to kind of block him out of my life for awhile. We're now good friends again, but I think he'll always like me. And he resents my current relationship.
Just don't be pushy.
