Cinema Industry: Fun jobs having to do with music/video editing/film editing etc
I am a physics major at a pretty good school. I am also a professional skier in the winter and am getting into heli-ski guiding.
I plan on using my physics degree to get me into the air national guard. I want to fly fighter jets part time (1 weekend a month, 2 weeks a year).
I had it all planned out...
One problem...
I love music. I love music and movies so much. Every time I am studying physics or working on some bitch ass physics problem that takes me a week to figure out...I always think about how cool it would be to be working on films like the matrix or lord of the rings or editing music.
I dont know what do to.
Do you think that liking music would translate into liking editing music? Im afraid that if I switch tracks i will end up with a job that i wont like and even worse might make me not like music or film as much as I do now.
So, what kind of jobs are there in the film/music buisness that are fun/interesting?
I think it might be kinda like acting...its great if you make it but there are thousands and thousands of actors out there who suck or who are good but still dont make shit for a living. I dont want to end up mixing music for the local wedding singer or some private shitty ass production.
So, how hard is it to get one of the good jobs at a good company? Whats it like as an editor? Lots of hours? Tedious?
I am way to far into my physics program to quit...but once i gradute...i might want to still do the heli-ski guide (march through may) and the fighter pilot thing (1 weekend a month) AND work with music in some studio.....
What options are there for obtaining a degree that would help with getting a job as an editor for a film? My current school only has a general music degree....i dont think that would help much.
What are the names of the top schools in the country for film/music editing?
Thanks
Allen
