I liked the fog-shrouded bridge and the boat, but something about the composition just detracts. Should I crop a great deal of it? Just buy a better camera? Give up and find a new hobby?

It's a beautiful shot of a sexy bridge. I second the cropping suggestion, just cut off enough so that there's no sky visible above the bridge in the foreground, it'll emphasise the 'horisontalness'. Also, consider editing out the number 4 on the leftmost pillar, it really draws my eye now.
