Well, since the guy apparently feels somewhat sheepish about it all after the fact, I guess the real point is that he can't handle serious liquor; it turns him into an a-hole, which he isn't when sober. Would suggest future outings that deemphasize drinking, or that accompany drinking with so much food that he's too loggy to do much besides burp.
