I agree with several others; don't let one bad experience stop you from doing something you believe is truly beneficial.
I think the guy who filed the grievance is in bad shape, has a lot of problems, and is still at the stage for wanting to blame somebody else for some or all of them. So he's a damaged person flailing around for any excuse to make some of his problems "not his fault." And you happen to be one.
Stand up, get through this. Shake his hand and give him a hug. Tell him, and the people you work for, that you look forward to working with him when you get this all cleared up. And mean it.
