Safest and Unsafest cities
Two O.C. cities ranked among 10 safest

Mission Viejo was designated the fourth-safest city in America for the second year in a row, according to a survey to be released today that ranks the country's safest and most dangerous cities.
This is the eighth year in a row that Mission Viejo was among the top 10 safest cities with populations of at least 75,000, in the annual City Crime Rankings by Morgan Quintno Press, a Kansas research and publishing firm.
"I'm really proud we've been able to hold on to one of the safest-city positions," said Mission Viejo Mayor Trish Kelley. "I'm proud of our Sheriff's Department and police services in Mission Viejo. The ranking goes nice with our being a community of character."
Lake Forest was the ninth-safest city on this year's list, down three places from its sixth-place ranking last year.
"It's a cooperative effort," said Lt. Jay LeFlore, Chief of Police Services in Lake Forest. "The city makes law enforcement a priority and we provide good quality service. I'm proud to be a part of that."
Irvine was ranked the 13th-safest city on this year's list.
Last year, an analysis by The Orange County Register of 2004 preliminary crime statistics compiled by the FBI showed Irvine, with only two homicides in 2004, to be the safest city in the United States in terms of violent crime.
The Morgan Quintno survey evaluates nearly 700 cities and metro areas based on six basic crime categories: homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft.
