Most new case should come with a small speaker or the Mobo should come with one. Plugging in the cpu, one stick of ram and the cpu fan. Also connect the system speaker to the motherboard if not already connected. Motherboards these days tend to use sounds as a way to inform builders what problems there are if they don't come with onboard video.
The manual should tell you what each beeps mean when you start it up by shorting out the switch. If I'm not mistaken, one stick of ram will result in a overclock problem if you have asus motherboards but I wouldn't know about other brands...
