One thing to consider about who the next Spider-Man villian is going to be; is how that character is going to translate to live-action. In the comics you really can do anything, and a skillful artist can make it look good and if not belivable, at least plausible. However in a movie it has too look realistic and should not be overly original.
I think it's that issue that ultimately lead to the Hulk being a failure at the box office, even tho I thought it was good. The movie going public just wasn't able to get past the big green monster in purple pants... c'mon, it's fucking ridiculous. I fear the same issue will befall a character like Venom or Carnage... they're bad guy psychos who are covered in a living goo? Uhh... no thanks. Even Sandman and Hydro-Man seem to fall in to that same trap...
Give me a guy who:
**has robotic arms and smashes stuff
**can shoot lightining from his hands
...those are your money bad guys. Powers the great unwashed movie-going public can get behind.
I'm curious to see how they pull off Sandman (if the rumours are true) I hope it goes well.
