Most LCD monitors, unlike CRTs, will appear a little blurry if not run at their "native" resolution. I'm not an expert in monitor technology, but the LCD monitors at my school's computer labs are a strain on the eyes at 1024x768 resolution. Bumping up the resolution to 1600x1200 in XP's Display Properties solved the problem. The on-screen text was much smaller, yet crisp and easy to read. When I boot my PC the BIOS startup screen suffers from a little ghosting because it is running at 640x480 (I think) and not my native 1024x768.
Try changing your screen resolution by right-clicking on your desktop, clicking "Properties" and then the "Settings" tab. Drag the slider to change your resolution and see if your image appears any sharper.
