Okay, sorry for the short post, but I had just spent two hours trying to get this damned thing working and I was a little too torqued off to write a long post. I am connected with a wire to a Linksys router.
I have set up shared folders, etc, and done everything to allow someone to log onto my computer. My problem lies in that when the person on the XP box tries to access PETER [my computer name], a box pops up asking for user/pass. Despite my using the correct password, it never works. This brings me to this question: should I be using PETER\Administrator [the correct user/pass for the computer to be accessed] as the user/pass, or should I be using something else? I am pretty sure I should be using PETER\Administrator, but it never works. In my Local Security Settings I have all the appropriate things set, but it still doesn't work. Should I use PETER\Guest as the username?
Also, if I set Guest logins as enabled [after right clicking My Computer -> Manage -> Local Users and Groups -> Guest -> uncheck "Account is disabled"], when I try to log into the Win2k comp from the XP comp, I get the following error: "Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer." Does that error mean that the problem lies in the computer trying to do the accessing [has XP], or the computer to be accessed [has Win2k]?
I have tried various other changes in different settings, but it always comes back to this damned problem whenever I have Guests enabled: "Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer."
I'm pretty sure if I can make this go away I will be fine.
EDIT: I have tried adding different Users and all that, but I can never get the username right.. If I have added a user to my Win2k comp [the comp to be accessed], what do I put as the username? Do I put PETER\*created username* or do I put KYLE\*created username* ? Or just the username, leaving out the name of the computer?
KYLE being the computer doing the accessing, the XP comp.
