Auburn wouldn't have given up 55 points. VT did not almost win that game to be honest. They were bringing it close at the end. However, Auburn outplayed them the entire game. A few lucky breaks and strong defensive moves really kept VT from getting blown out. USC really struggled against VT as well if you remember. And VT has really improved since then.
You're right, the situation is different from last year. It's
worse. Two teams finished undefeated that were not given a shot at the championship. Last year, the BCS gave us a good game. It may have picked the correct teams. This year, it obviously picked the wrong team(OU).
