My wife enjoys a wide variety of breast, nipple, areola stimulation. The trick with her is knowing what she wants at a given time. She has large breasts, thick nipples, and large areolas. It's a safe bet to always start out gentle. She usually lets me know when it's time to add pressure by her body language.
