That's an extremely ironic statement.

The latest Radeon series (X800) is based on old technology that was used with the 9800 series. ATI is getting a bad vibe from reviewers because NVIDIA overhauled their entire chipset for the 6800 series to be ready for games coming out for a long time. If anything has happened, NVIDIA has an advantage over ATI concerning chipset advances.
ATI does have some incredibly image quality on all of their cards.
The only time it's ok to say that one company simple owned the other was the old Radeon 9700 Pro versus GeForce 4 TI4600 days.
Other than that, NVIDIA and ATI have been head to head with a few minor "wins" here and there.
