i'm not familiar enough w/all the legal contracts to comment... but i do like coach stoops' point about no one talking about USC's legitimacy. they started off at #1 and haven't received much scrutiny throughout the course of the season.
also, oklahoma clearly has the upperhand in strength-of-schedule.

OU and USC are close (58 and 59 respectively) while auburn has one of the weakest schedules in the nation (114th).
Last year's Sugar Bowl score was 21-14. I'm not quite sure why anyone would consider that a clock cleaning. I mean, it was a national title game decided by a friggin touchdown... how much closer would you expect #1 & 2 to play eachother?
For most people (AP writers and coaches included) it all boils down to team preference with a thin pretense of objective analysis. Thats ok though, that's part of what makes college football so exciting.
