I have a common name, shared with various media types and a mass murderer. It's really not that big a deal. Most people don't care, and kids under 10 won't know at all. And by the time your son is over 10, Hannibal Lecter will be be out of the public consciousness.
I'm working with a bunch of homeless kids right now, and some of the names are Shane, Brandy, Kehlil, Mercedes, Ashley, Jackson, Jules, Kiefer, Michaela, and other choice ones. The kids _all_ tease each other about names, but not with literary or movie references. They do puns and plays on words, like Shane Brain, Keh Steal, things like that.
Although when Shane goes running off the playground out of bounds, I _do_ have the stifle the urge to call, "Come back, Shane!"
