The reason that the ACC wants to expand from 9 schools to 12 is so they can have a Conference Championship football game. They are looking to generate more revenue, and the ACC is a weak football conference. Miami, Syracuse and BC would lend the conference some football credibility. Yes, they already have FSU and Maryland has been decent the last couple of years, but after that there is a steep dropoff. When was the last time that Duke won a football game against a decent school?
There is an upside to those schools leaving the Big East. The Big East gets an automatic BCS bid and without those three, Pitt would clean up.
