I weighed around 300 near the end of my junior year of college, and I decided to do something about my weight. What worked great for me was getting myself involved in activities that were strenous but fun, and cutting off the really crappy foods. For me that meant doing volunteer work at a theater (building sets for 3+ hours a day on a stage without AC during the summer does wonders), and swapping from regular coke to diet coke. That, combined with some other lifestyle changes, made me lose 25 pounds in a month.
Now I'm at a steady 280, and I've found a great group of guys to lift with every other day. I'm still weak, but they've given me confidence at it feels fantastic.
So get out there, find people to work with, and get motivated.
