Hi-def football is fabulous. The widescreen add a lot also; now you can see the corners and the backs and the adjustments they are making prior to the snap.
I've heard the widescreen does wonders for soccer, and that hi-def totally transforms hockey.
There is only so much you can do with an SD picture. If you blow up a postage stamp to 51" it's ot going to look great. Are you sitting back far enough? For a 50" set you should sit about 9-10' away, at least.
