For the second straight day, the United States softball team played less than seven innings. For the second straight day, the American women showed why they're in a class of their own. Veteran pitcher Lisa Fernandez (1-0) gave up just one hit in five innings, and knocked in three runs at the plate to lead the U.S. to a 10-0 victory over Australia in a game shortened by the Olympic seven-run mercy rule. Stacey Nuveman belted a three-run homer for the Americans, who earned a 7-0 victory over Italy in five innings on Saturday. This one also lasted five innings, and was especially sweet considering the Aussies got the best of the Americans once at the Sydney Games four years ago. The Americans ended up with gold, and are now looking for a third straight Olympic title. They face Japan next on Monday.
