After my first date with a woman I liked very much, I called her when I got home. It was supposed to be a very short call. I told her I had a great time on our date and thanked her for the evening. The phone call turned into a 3 hour conversation. It must not have seemed too desperate because we got married 2 years after our first date.
There are no rules. You do what feels right and if it's right for both of you, then don't listen to what anyone else says. It felt right to call her after our first date so I did. When our wedding was getting close, she told me that I was the only guy to have ever done that and she told me that it made her feel good that I did.
