It's not so much that you'll come across as desperate if you call to soon, it's that you'll come across as a stalker. The kind of guy who will cling to her as tightly as he can.
It'd probably be preferable to think that you have some other friends you can talk to after you get home, rather than wanting right away to call someone who is, in essence, a complete stranger.
It doesn't have to be two days, but you should at least wait until the next day.
