Here I thought that the crippling blow to his campaign was running against a black democrat who is from Chicago in the Illinois Senate race. Also having the same last name as the disgraced former governor doesn't help. In the last gubenitorial election, I recall seeing a voter poll about who they were planning on voting for. The Republican candidate (who's name was also Ryan, but was a different guy, neither the old governor or Jack Ryan) would be losing by almost 20%. Then, they would go back and explain to the people polled that he was not the old governor and he would only be losing by 5%.
I have tons of faith in the voting public.

Tell me about it. And I'm from Illinois, so I get to reap the benefits of their incompetancy.
