I've heard the REAL reason for interest is that the ACC will then have enough teams to put on a men's basketball conference championship. Bucks, my friends, they want the big bucks.
However, I have always wondered, as I see Ohio State play Michigan play Penn State play Michigan State, etc, how Miami, Florida, and Florida State are not in the same league and don't need to play every year. I mean, don't you gotta prove your the best in the state before you start claiming the national title?
This would swing Florida State and Miami into the same conference. However, I just don't see this idea flying. The ACC is reaching to far. Would be a good move for Miami, though. They can't compete in Big East basketball anyway, and the ACC right now may be a weaker football conference than the Big East. Theres some issues at FSU...
No, the Big East would not survive. You could not take marquee temas and hope to sell your broadcast rights (money again). Something else would need to happen.
