that would be the proper way to judge how
popular a film was, not how
good it was.
For instance
Falling Down with Michael Douglas is far better (IMO) than some (edit: actually most if not all of those) of the other live action films listed, but made far less money. Which is course brings up the point of opinion; how much a film made, even if it was awful, is a tangible basis whereas everyone has their likes and dislikes in the cinema.
My personal listings would cover much more of the <1950ish releases or films with structural merit that are not so effects driven for more current ones.
