I also think the country would unite behind Bush. Remember the reaction in America to the elections in Spain? Sure, the terrorists attacked and the present administration lost. But, how many political cartoons, pundits, or just general water-cooler conversations did you see/hear about how badly Spain caved to the terrorists? Americans definitely doesn't want to give the appearance of "caving" to the terrorists and I think they would send a message by uniting behind the President.
