When Do You Wake Up?

    Levite Levitical Yet Funky

Most days when I'm not classroom teaching, Little Levite wakes us up around 7 am, we get up, let out the dog and feed her, get Little Levite changed and dressed and fed, and Mrs. Levite either takes the first couple of hours taking care of him, or takes him to day care. I go back to bed for another couple of hours, alarm wakes me around 9/9:30, when I shower, have breakfast, and start writing and prepping for tutoring and other classes. (I reciprocate for Mrs. Levite's first shift by taking the bedtime shift plus being on call if Little Levite happens to wake up during the night.)

On days I do classroom teaching, my alarm gets me up around 6:30, I shower, let the dog out and feed her, grab breakfast I can eat on the go, and I'm out the door by 7:45, so that I can get to work ten minutes early for my 9:00 class.

Obviously, if Mrs. Levite has something early on, I get up whenever she needs me to get up, and either take Little Levite to day care, or take care of him myself.

But unless woken by child or wife, I need an alarm clock. My natural circadian rhythm has little overlap with the 9 to 5 lifestyle and its requirements. Left to my own devices, I'll naturally want to go to sleep between 2 and 3 am and get up between noon and 1 pm. Without melatonin at night and an alarm clock in the morning, I'd be screwed.
