What's your dream vacation?

Discussion in 'Tilted Life and Sexuality' started by snowy, Dec 22, 2012.

  1. I would like to go to Gloucester to see Jim Hamilton play rugby. I will be drooling...a lot and thus packing a bib. He will be mine. Oh yes, he will be mine.

It would actually be cool to tour the UK with the team for a few matches and possibly see the Saracens, Harlequins and Ospreys too...... I'd like to see the Northampton Saints too and then see the shoe factory that inspired the movie, Kinky Boots.

    A bit of a tour.

    1. A fishing trip mingled with walking tours in The Shire, where I'd hope to stay with close friends in Hobbiton. (Their hospitality is amazing.)
    2. A short stay in Bree at a bed and breakfast before continuing east.
    3. A week in Rivendell, where I would take workshops in the arts of Elvish song and craft, and brush up on my Quenya and Telerin and my Elvish script.
    4. A tour of the works at Khazad-dûm (Mines of Moria, Halls of Durin), in part to see how recolonization efforts are going.
    5. A few days in Lórien (Lothlórien) to rest from travel, stock up on lembas, catch up with the Ñoldor and Sindar east of the Misty Mountains.
    6. A horseback riding tour of Rohan, while taking the time to explore Meduseld, Helm's Deep, and the Glittering Caves.
    7. Finally, two full weeks in the City of Kings (Minas Tirith) in Gondor. Because you just can't appreciate enough of it in just one week, especially not if you want to do any excursions to Osgiliath (which is a must).
This will likely take at least a couple of months to do adequately. My only regret is not having enough time to visit the Grey Havens, Isengard, Esgaroth, and Erebor. You just can't do Middle-earth all in one go. And Mordor is right out. I hear it's a place you need to do all on its own. One does not simply "tour" Mordor. I hear it's fantastic if not rather adventuresome.

A very long trip on a freighter circling the globe and stopping at completely out of the way locations. I checked it out a few years ago after speaking with a couple who had taken a short freighter cruise from LA to the South Pacific. Sounded great to me, about 20 other people on the cruise, larger stateroom then a normal cruise ship, meals were above decent and they got to see little ports you'd probably never even think to travel to.

If I recall correctly, the book "Paradise" by Larry McMurtry features a similar cruise through the Marquesas.

I may have to find that book. I did a google search and found a couple companies that arrange such trips. Someday, most likely sooner then I wish, I'll not have my dogs. When that day arrives I'm not getting any more pets until I get a travel bug off my back.

Many of these dreams sound so lovely but my best answer is that I won't know until I find it. There is a bit of magic in grabbing a flight going overseas without a real concrete plan, hopping on a train, ending in some small town and finding whatever you can find. Europe was good for that but I haven't gotten the travel bug for a while to give it much thought lately.

Mine is going to be ful filled in a couple of years. Taking my new, young Filipina bride thru all the survival and shooting courses offered in the US, after I train her to decent levels with all that I know, of course. the courses will cost us 10's of thousands of $, and won't cover much that I haven't already taught her, but I want to enjoy her involvment with others, ascertain that she's then seen it ALL, and she'll have a greater appreciation for me and what i have taught her, too. then she will be ready for competition and making the big bucks, teaching karate, shooting, and survival. I won't get the benefit of it, much, cause as soon as she gets her US citizenship, she will be gone like the wind (she'll be early 20's, I'm 60 right now). But that's still 5 years of guaranteed fun. :)

I hope you have fun but it's not my dream plan when I pass sixty. Different strokes I guess.

If you want large rooms choose Hedo, but not III at Ocho Rios in Jamaica. Desires has better food in my opinion.

You could always do one one year and they other the next.

Wait a few years and you can go to Independence, USA

With the rest of the country and the world going away from the values of freedom, responsibility and truth, Independence would be a place built on the very foundation of those principles.

Glenn Beck's version of Galt's Gulch...or maybe Jonestown.

Freedom: It's rigidly tied to one's material circumstances as it relates to capitalism.

Responsibility: It includes interacting with the world around you instead of eschewing or rejecting it.

Truth: A theme park is a fabrication, a compressed and diminutive simulacrum of the world.

Baudrillard would be thrilled with this.

There is always The Citadel in Idaho, where Marxists, Socialists, Liberals and Establishment Republicans will likely find that life in our community is incompatible with their existing ideology and preferred lifestyles.

sorry, but I aint staying any place that's hot or cold. Birds with a brain no bigger than a marble know enough to move with the seasons, so I follow suit. :) Places like those wind up being hellholes, cause somebody always has to be the "big chief", and somebody always resents that, to a positive degree. No thanks. Also, such places aint going to be full of 20 year old, lovely gals, used to living on 2k a year, who think that older US men ROCK. :)

I've been wanting to do this myself. Take a couple months off work and live out of my car. Might happen sooner than I think, maybe this July.
