I came here to post that a minor, but positive, side effect of the update was to make it so that the Tapatalk app on my Kindle Fire now lists threads in the appropriate order by last post, which it did not before. Woohoo.

Reading through the last several posts, I'd just like to comment on how difficult it is to strike the proper balance between in-depth discussion, allowing some frivilous humor, and also having the type of content that is in Posting Games and Found on the Net. They all have their legitimate place, and I think most of us enjoy all of them at various times for various reasons. I for one rarely post in Tilted Back, but I do like wandering in there to lurk in 3-4 of the more (to me) interesting threads. I think it gives the board a nice extra flavor. My only recommendation would be to see if the "2 posts to enter" requirement could be adjusted to be 2 posts in the last 24 hours, not necessarily 2 posts that day. A minor change, but one that I think could be made without losing the intent of what cyn is trying to do by having the requirement.

I started out liking the "hey, I want to click boxes so just the forums I want to show up in Recent Threads show up there" idea. But after reading through the back-and-forth, and seeing some good points on both sides, I have to agree with mixedmedia. There have been several times that a thread in one of the sections I usually don't post in has caught my eye solely because of being in Recent Threads. Given the option to "check the boxes", I probably wouldn't have checked certain forums and would've missed out on good discussion (either just to read, or also to participate). So in the end, I think where it's at now is a fairly good balance.

Borla, agreed. I do agree with mixedmedia then I think she understands. It does have it's own benefit; it has it's own attraction.

I think that there is a good balance at the moment. I don't want to suppress it 100%. Looking back, I'm glad that I could not have easily removed it from the recent threads block right now. I think that even people who aren't subscribed to Politics should see that in the recent threads but not in the What's New for them. There has to be a way to show membership that there are other places and spaces here.

What I really need to fix is the Recent Threads and the Donation block. It's conflicting to the point that it makes the Recent threads turn into bee stung lips.

I'd love to make the mod do the past 24 hours, the issue with that is about queries and impact on the server. I think it can be done, but I know I can't do it. I'd commission someone to do it but I haven't been able to get someone who wants to do it.

If you're registered on reddit, you can completely customize your frontpage experience so that you don't have a list filled with /r/pics if you don't want that. Like Borla, I was initially in favor of reddit-style customization of "What's New?" but I think mixedmedia is right that it makes it too easy to compartmentalize the site. That said, if it were possible to customize "What's New?" based on categories (e.g. Tilted Forward, Tilted Back) rather than individual forums, that might be a good compromise.
