Had the following tonight:

Breaded chicken cutlet on rice and with Japanese curry (Curry Katsu)
Spring rolls (Harumaki)
Uramaki sushi roll with avocado, smoked salmon, crabstick, and mayo, with red fish roe on the outside
Uramaki sushi roll with tempura-battered prawns, cucumber, sweet chili sauce, and teriayki sauce on top

Yummm!

 

Mezzo platter to share, wood-grilled beef tenderloin perfectly seasoned and prepared with a brown butter hollandaise, truffled marscapone grits, and greens. Glass of Angeline Pinot noir, one of coffee, and a chocolate torte with chocolate mousse.

I'll shut up now.

Ordered Cheesy Breadstixx and a medium Omnivore pizza from NKD Pizza earlier to counter the after-effects of last night. Took pictures of the goods, as per snowy 's request.


1. Breadstixx was made out of pizza dough, tomato-sauce base, mozzarella and basil. Came with Marinara sauce as dip.






2. Pizza with a thin crust, BBQ sauce base, mozzarella, ground beef, bacon, pineapple, sun-dried tomatoes, black olives and mushrooms.

 

Italian Sausage on the BBQ, accompanied by Red wine and Garlic Portabella mushrooms and steamed Broccoli

 

One of my roommates, his grandma works at a hospital in the area in the cafeteria. They make a LOT of food, and what they don't use, they get to bring home. So, his grandparents bring the food to the three poor, starving college students to eat.

Tonight, I'm eating one of those such meals: crab cakes. Reheated in a toaster oven for 10 minutes at 400 degrees; inside is still moist and flavorful while the outside is nice and crisp. Delicious.

 

Black forest ham on an onion roll with brown deli mustard and american cheese. (only cheese we had in the house)

 

Ham and cheese on toasted multigrain bread, and a can of Chunky Baked Potato Bacon and Cheese soup.

Is it the best for me? not a chance. But it's quick and it's tasty.

 

Fresh green fava and garbanzo bean soup in the Yemenite style, but with Moroccan-style merguez sausage added. Kubbeh (balls of spiced ground beef wrapped in bulghur wheat and fried in olive oil) in the Jerusalem style. Chicken in a sauce of cherry, pomegranate, red wine, juniper, sumac, and a few other assorted Middle Eastern spices. Turmeric rice with pistachios and raisins in the Northern Kurdish style. Vegetables roasted in the Greek style. Apples baked with zereshk (Persian barberries), cardamom and honey, in the Iranian style.

 

Wow. Talk about flavors!

 

Grilled scallops, carmelized leek mashed potatoes and green beans. Followed by an apple brown betty.

The opening course was a couple of grey gooses on the rocks.

 

I got an excellent deal on chicken wings so I am doing something with that. Not sure what exactly. I figure I will play it by ear.
I cut up a pineapple the other day so I might do a sweet and spicy BBQ with green bell peppers and rice. I may do a spinach side salad for myself and the boy.

 

Apple-braised beef brisket with carrots, russets, and sweet potato. My first time out making a brisket. It will happen again.
