Market trading in Eve is Serious Business. You'd probably enjoy it.

As for consuming your life, that's the upside to stuff in the game happening in real time. I don't have to be logged in to train skills or trade, I just have to log in to update the queues once a day or so. Means I don't have to spend hours on it if I don't have time.

I enjoy the game but I can't imagine spending an entire weekend playing. I got shit to do.

I still can't get enough of Hotline Miami. This simple game has great music and easy controls.

Trying to find all the masks and solve the Scrabble piece puzzle will likely take me many weeks.

Since they added XP for gathering, I've been able to go entire levels just farming. Works for me.

The DayZ standalone game isn't released yet, although it's imminent, at the moment it's a mod of Arma2. The standalone should reduce/zero the hacker count and is being released through Steam.

can we have an update on SW: TOR please? i'm seriously thinking about signing up for it.

This week is a new Gree event in SW:TOR. The latest updates have added some new features to the game, such as Reputation points for a few planets, new missions, and new stuff to buy in the Cartel Market. In May the upgrade comes out, Rise of the Hutts, should be good. :) And if you're interested in the game, give it a try now, its now free to play. Its heavily restricted, but you can play the character storyline without paying.

I'm still stuck on EVE. I've made ~4M ISK trading so far, which isn't very much but is better than being in the red. I may have to scale up my operations; creating an alt dedicated to trading is probably a reasonable next step.

When not doing that I've been running PvE missions. They're a reasonably fun way to pass the time, and have the bonus of improving my standing with the NPC corporations (which in turn lowers my overhead costs for trading and mining, since it means I pay them less to process my ores or broker my trades). I'm starting to seriously consider joining a player-run corporation, which would be the first step on the path to getting into the PvP aspects of the game. I'm really mostly focused on increasing my in-game cashflow right now though -- I really need to get my income levels up to about 150M ISK per week within the next 6 weeks or so, or I'm going to be stuck paying for another time card, which may be enough to kill my interest in playing. We'll see what happens, I guess.

just picked up xcom: enemy unknown... civ 5 whetted my appetite for turn-based strategy and this is supposed to be a very good one so i'm looking forward to cracking it open.

I keep looking at XCom. I'll probably grab it next time it goes on sale.

Get UFO Defense and TFTD. Avoid Apocalypse unless you're a glutton for punishment and enjoy using third party programs to make it playable.

I have UFO Defense and TFTD, bro. I'm talking about the shiny new one.

Although, if we're going to talk about old games, I should probably mention that gog.com now has System Shock 2. If you played and enjoyed Bioshock, you need to own this game. If you didn't, you still need to own this game. And also go get Bioshock. It's pretty good, and you can get it on Steam for, like, $5.

Oh, my mistake. UFO: Enemy Unknown was the title of the British version of the original XCOM. In the US it was called XCOM: UFO Defense.

    /buckets of childhood memories

I'll wait a couple of years before hitting up the latest chapter of the saga.

    ...

I'm always stalking GOG.com for more classics from my childhood. I'm really impressed with FTL: Faster Than Light.

It reminds me a bit of the Stargate SG-1 series and the Battlestar Galactica reboot.

xcom is awesome... it's got all the research and stuff that hooks me into hours of civ 5 but in the setting of squad combat with cool little combat cut scenes. you get surprisingly attached to your squaddies as you promote and equip them progressively.

Fired up some Crysis 3 ( I loved the first) - I dunno, I couldn't get into it. I didn't stay long but it didn't grab my attention. Anyone else check this game out?

i've yet to even try any of the crysis series; i tend toward more cartoon-y fps's than realistic looking ones. everything i've ever read about them says that the graphics are all top notch but not to expect much in the way of stories. given that i'd probably just stick to planetside 2.

unfortunately no... if you're looking for solo play along the lines of crysis, i recommend dead space or bioshock if you haven't played those. also either borderlands 1 or 2 can be soloed but it can be difficult to do so.
