I really enjoyed Civ5. Excellent game. Also, LIMBO and World of Goo are musts!

I finally got into DOTA 2 a bit ago...

What a fantastic game. I love being able to random from any of the 100+ champions and learn as I go. It leads to a lot of failed matches, but I'm having a ton of fun.

Plus, how freaking cool are some of these champions like Bloodseeker and Faceless Void?!

    Really good game.

I've also been playing Awesomenauts a bit...

    Sidescrolling 3v3 tower defense!

It's a really fun take on the MOBA genre and totally refreshing when I find myself frustrated with the intricacies of LoL/DOTA 2 and just want to have fun without as much brain function.

I also picked up Darksiders II, Dungeon Defenders, and KOTOR II so far from the autumn sale, so those are on my list...

Baraka_Guru, Galactic Civilizations II is currently a flash sale. $5 if you get it in the next nine hours.

SPAZ is pretty cool, and definitely worth $2.50. Mass Effect 2 is on sale for the next 3 hours for $6, and Hotline Miami for $5. I haven't played Hotline Miami but I've heard a lot of good things about it so I'm considering it. Warning: it has a reputation as being very, very dark. Watch the videos to get a feel for it.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is one of todays daily deals. I'd recommend it at $20, for $5 it's a no brainer. Also notable (and my most recent acquisition) is Borderlands 2, which is half off today for $30. Called it.

just plunked down for torchlight 2 and mark of the ninja (92 metacritic + i'm a sucker for stealth games) on this last day of the autumn sale. the good news is if you missed anything it'll all be back on 12/21 possibly cheaper for some things. i bit on the 2 i did because they're indie games so i don't mind having supported the devs even if they go down and also i'm looking at a 10 day break from work so i wanted to have something in the clip while im not doing family stuff.

edit: i've also been eyeballing this free indie title; stealth with what looks like elroy jetson or calvin/hobbes calvin.

The Steam sale is over, but Endless Space is offering a free weekend. If you choose to buy it it's 50% off for the duration of the weekend as well.

I've put a few hours into it this week. It doesn't feel quite as deep as some of it's 4X peers -- certainly not as deep as MoO 2 or Galactiv Civilizations 2. If you like fiddling with all the little details this might be a drawback, but on the other hand if you find games like that are a bit overwhelming this could well be a benefit.

Baraka_Guru, now is your chance to try it out.

I'm currently plugging away at Blake Stone: Aliens. Then I'll crush Planet Strike. I'm on a "reliving my childhood" kick. It all started back in the day with LucasFilm games but I'll settle for retro shooters. Wolf 3D, Blake Stone, Strife, etc.

    ...

    Martian,

Yeah, I've been eyeballing Hotline Miami on GOG for a week. Looks friggin' sick. And a little disturbing. Hafta check it out.

I'm also pretty excited about downloading Retro City Rampage, too.

Forcing myself to slammify these old games first, though.

Plan9, you'll have to let me know. I keep eyeing Hotline Miami, but I want to get through some of the games I already have before I buy more.

I dunno, man. It might be awhile. Blake Stone is tedious as can be, even with all the sweet recon maps in the world.

    Blake Stone, tedious? Blasphemy.

I wonder if I still have the 3.5" floppies kicking around.

ok i started planetside 2 on a lark last week and it is completely top notch. the scale is crazy, the classes are fun and the vehicles are nuts. it's got a bit of a learning curve but so far it's vying to be the best free to play game ever in my opinion. HIGHLY recommend. i'm on the purple team/ helios server if you want to join up.

I have the original boxes/manuals with 3.5" floppies for Wolf 3D, Spear of Destiny, Doom, Doom 2, Blake Stone and like three dozen other titles from that era on a dusty old bookshelf at my parents' place. Probably not worth anything, though.

    Who was a shut-in until 2001?

I would TOTALLY give you money for those. But Lordeden would probably yell at me.

We found an old copy of "The Lost Mind of Dr. Brain" at the shop. Never played it, but I loved "The Castle of Dr. Brain." About to see if I can install it...and then play it. Awesome.

Would depend on their condition, I'd imagine. I have a hunch that the original Wolfenstein/Doom/Doom 2 disks would go for a fair amount if they're still in the box and in good condition. Even more so if they were still shrinkwrapped, though I imagine that's not the case.

Could poke around on ebay and see what the asking price is.

i looked through this sale and it's not quite as good as their seasonals. as an example i just bought mark of the ninja last week for half off and for this big picture sale it's only 33% down. if you can stand the ~2 weeks i'd wait for the xmas sale which is slated for 12/21.

Not just on gog.com -- they're selling it for $5.99 on their own website as well. The FTL team does their distribution via the Humble Bundle folks (the first but not, I suspect, the last to go this route). This means if you have a Humble Bundle account from having bought previous bundles, FTL will be added to your games there and can be redownloaded as needed from them. The pricing is the same regardless of your choice of platform, so I'd recommend going with whichever distributor you like better.

    FTL: Faster Than Light

I paid $9 for FTL shortly after it came out. It's fun but frustrating. A lot of players have complained about the amount of luck involved in the game, but I feel like they're sort of missing the point; the idea behind the game in my mind isn't necessarily to beat it (and you won't on most playthroughs) but rather to do the best you can with the hand you're dealt. Sometimes you get the right random events in the right order and things break your way, sometimes you don't.

I'd suggest doing your homework before buying this one. I enjoyed it and sunk quite a few hours into it, but it's definitely not for everyone. Note that it is cross-platform, being available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

I sort of agree -- the ones worth picking up in my opinion are Limbo or Magicka for $2.50 each (both well worth the price) and if for some bizarre reason you still don't own them Left 4 Dead 1/2 at $5. Left 4 Dead will most certainly be on sale again over the holidays, though I don't think it'll go any cheaper (could be wrong on that). Limbo or Magicka may or may not be. If you're picking one or two to buy out of the big picture sale, I'd go with them.

I'm currently undergoing a self-imposed moratorium on new purchases until I've worked through my backlog. The Humble THQ Bundle is a bit of a painful one to skip, but I can justify it, and I already own any of the games I'd want out of big picture so that's easy. It's going to be the holiday sale that will truly test my resolve.

    Hey, Martian

Have you checked out Magicka much? I gave it a try. While I like the concept, I think it would only really be fun (for me) as a multiplayer thing. It looks like it has a lot of potential.

We need to get a group together.

Magicka is a lot of fun, and is much better multiplayer. Though it does tend to devolve into deathmatches pretty rapidly.

We have a group. Our group just never plays.

I'm pretty invested into Borderlands 2 right now. Perhaps I'll come up for air soon, and we can get some Magicka in. Or some Left 4 Dead. Or some Payday. Or, or, or.
