i've been playing gw2. it's a breath of fresh air at the moment in the mmo realm imo. i haven't had this much fun leveling in a game in a long time. they make a lot of things easy. like if you are level 4o and group with a level 20 you can still get decent xp and the loot is individualized, so i can still get some lvl 40 drops while helping a lower level friend. also it scales you to the zone you are in, as a level 40 i'm level 20 in a level 20 zone. the same is for pvp, everyone is 80 and they give decent gear for you to use so you can compete.

also there aren't locked encounters, you can tag mobs to help people and still get loot/xp, and there's achievements for rezzing people so everyone is really helpful. with this being said the actual difficulty of the encounters is pretty hard. you can't just spam abilities and win.

with that being said the only thing to do at 80 is this world pvp which i dont exactly understand yet.

I'm also into GW2 atm. I never got into WoW past the free trials quite a few years ago, so I may be biased a little, but I would suggest it. You may want to visit the forums though since they're now up and running.

    Guild Wars 2 Forum

Just look around and see what everyone is talking about. I would discard the hype, although I find it immensely enjoyable so far (lvl 33 Norn warrior). Most of the complaints seem to be about dungeons. People think mobs are horribly unbalanced making it too difficult to finish. I have not taken part in dungeons yet, I've been soloing in story mode so I can't comment on that. However, combat is completely different in GW2 than the traditional MMO. Everyone can heal themselves, and there's no traditional roles. You have to watch your enemies and work on dodging and correctly buffing at the right times. It's not an ability spam situation and there's not anyone that will be able to maintain aggro and just stand there and tank everything successfully. I'm still learning everything myself, so I can't really go into more details than that.

There's still what people consider a grind, however, I'm having fun, so I guess I wouldn't agree with them. I'm enjoying taking my time exploring for now. :)

from what i understand it still is not officially released and free to play but if you are in a hurry and can afford it, you can plunk down 30 bucks to get an early pass. i have it but ended up playing league of legends more because my friends were. if you haven't tried l.o.l. give it a whirl, it's VERY similar but a little simpler in that there's only one shop for your stuff, you don't have to worry about 'denying' or killing your own creeps to hold back the other team, and you don't have to buy teleport scrolls, you can always teleport back to your home base.

I'm an avid LoL player, actually.

The $30.00 buy-in is the reason I'm wondering. My practical side says, "Don't spend the money when you can just wait and not drop a dime.", but I'm getting antsy and really considering just putting the money down.

We'll see if my impulses win out against my patience, I suppose. I just know minutes after I drop the money they will release the launch date as a week later, though....

it seems to me that they're REAL close to going f2p... even if it wasn't the week after it would probably feel like it when they did. if you're into other kinds of games at all i'd go for either borderlands 2 or guild wars 2 with the said 30 bucks and that would probably occupy you and then you'd have both.

headsup to any old school black isle fans... the makers of baldur's gate 2, planescape torment, icewind dale, kotr 2, and fallout new vegas are doing a kickstarter to make a spiritual succesor to the isometric rpg's of yesteryear... i also donated to similar projects for shadowrun returns and wasteland 2 and my favorite thing about pledging is the email updates detailing the recruitment process, conceptual brainstorming, and recently even some screenshots. anyway here's the link

I was foolish enough to buy FTL. It's awesome. It's completely kicking my ass.

    I have mixed feelings here.

...And today Humble Bundle released the Humble Indie Bundle 6, with Torchlight and Dustforce. Y'know, because I don't already have enough games I haven't found time for yet.

Damn it, you. Now I have to buy Baldur's Gate too?

I need to, like, retire. So I can have time for all these games.

since it came out, i've ignored everything in favor of borderlands 2! it's frickin awesome! i've played up to level 18 or so on zero, but i found that i died or re-did everything too much to the point that things are too easy on the missions, so i just started over on the siren.

anyone else playing this? i'd love to group up w/ some folks from here. i've tried pubs but there are a bunch of ass-hats that just bee-line around for the loot and don't care about the fighting.

When Borderlands 2 came out, the price dropped on Borderlands 1 so I was playing that for a while finally.

Anyone pick up XCom - Enemy Unknown yet? Was released yesterday and I played the demo. Very short demo, but the game seems fun. Maybe a little "dumbed down" compared to the original, but I'm definitely considering picking it up.

Still working through some of the games I got during the Steam Summer Sale... Bastion, Costume Quest, and Stacked. I don't have a very power gaming computer, so I do my casual gaming on my computer, more hardcore gaming on consoles. Exceptions: both Portals and all of Half-Life. :)
