Never have been into that swimming thing. If the water is over my shoulders I stay clear. The first time I went off a diving board was at boot camp; that was damn intense hitting the water and not being able break the surface without the diver helping me out. The second and last time was 10 minutes later where I managed to stay afloat long enough to pass.
I even took swimming lessons before I left for boot camp; nothing so far in life has convinced me to try deeper water again but I am very open to trying stepping off a diving board again with a flotation board or something similar.

Too gnarly for today's heat—we bailed after 7 miles. Setting off during the midday, I knew there was no way I was going to be able to handle that much climbing in that much heat and sun. I'll be tackling it at some other time, preferably when it's cooler.

It's important to recognize that. Heat exhaustion is awful.

Wow I never even knew there were elevations like that in Maryland.
I rode Saturday afternoon here in upstate NY. Soupy thick humidity.
Rode about 2 hours, very hilly. Felt like I had lead weights for wheels.
It's going to get better soon. By tomorrow 70F will be the high here and the humidity will be gone.

Indeed—this area is fantastic for riding, with or without elevation. If you ever have a chance to come out here and ride, I highly recommend it.

    I. Can't. Wait.
