I've entered a phase of "functional reading," as I need to figure out how to make money between now and death.

I recently finished Rework by the guys at 37signals (Basecamp is kind of neat). It doesn't go into detail, but it certainly helps you see through the crap and refocus on what counts.

I'm currently working on Your Money or Your Life: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Achieving Financial Independence. I've always heard this talked about like it's a big deal. Not one for buying into hype, I've put it off for a long time. Now that I've read the Introduction, Prologue, and most of the first chapter, I think it is kind of a big deal. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of it.

Oh, and I recently bought a book called The Ultimate Sales Machine, mainly because the Toronto Public Library doesn't have it. Now, it may seem that I'm on the road to selling out. Whatever. I gots to eat.

I've read these two in the last 6 months. I can't recommend them enough.

Gone South: Robert McCammon: 9781416577799: Amazon.com: Books
    Boy's Life: Robert McCammon: 9781416577782: Amazon.com: Books

Boy's Life is one of the best books I've read in the last 10 years. I'm going to reread in a few years.

Don't worry. If you come up to the Toronto meet, you'll find out soon enough that I speak like I come from small-town Ontario. Not quite Timmins- or Tillsonburg-like, but close.

Finished the Wheel of Time series 1-14, and working on the prequel now.
Planning on working on more of my own writing for now. If I write enough hopefully not too painfully bad text it should be improving at some point.

Well, it has yet to arrive, but soon I will be reading Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro.

Ooh, you just reminded me that I haven't read the Amber Spyglass yet. I need to get on that.

I finished Don Felder's book, and I can never look at the Eagles quite the same way again. They're still my favorite band, and I still love the Henley/Frey lyrics, but I don't think I'll be going to see them live again...like, ever.

    Currently: rereading the Magicians.

Have to get cracking on Patricia Cornwell's Red Mist before our next flight at passover. I buy them at the airport and trade them in for half credit towards another one whenever I fly. Had this one since January 7th. That's about how much free time I've had since then... 206 pages worth.

I just finished Robert Jordan's Memory of Light...last book of the Wheel of Time series. (14th book, 900+ pages...oi)

Pretty decent read...lots of different threads, thank god they discovered "traveling", The Ways and the Dreamweave...otherwise they couldn't get everywhere as fast.
    Lots of bouncing around.

But at least after his death, the substitute writer was able to close all the subplots.
However, there was tons of potential for other tangent stories in the established world.

I wouldn't mind another...just give me a couple of years for a breather...those books are heavy to carry.
And I'm grateful the new guy made his ladies a little less vicious and manipulative.

I read this book 12 years ago and I remember nothing from the book, but everything from the movie.

Snowy, I just finished Tinker/Tailor/Soldier/Spy. It was excellent. Have you tried "The Spy Who Came in From The Cold?"

No, as Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is the first novel I've read by John Le Carre.

trying to work on a project that may eventually become something more than notes rather than actual reading of published books now.

Might be able to get it to Baraka_Guru for a look as soon as I figure out how to shoehorn Twilight, Star Wars, Star Trek, and Fifty Shades of Grey into one story, He would love it!

and yes I am kidding obviously. It is more of sci-fi and fantasy mix that is still early in development but it gets better with each new thing I add. My main concern is avoiding blatantly copying established stories like The Wheel of Time, Terry Goodkind, etc while covering turf that is going to sound familiar to some degree no matter what.

I highly recommend it, it was his breakout novel and a hell of a good read.

Heard of it, never have read the source novel or seen the film.
