What books are you reading right now?

It is being reported, and I hadn't at all known this, that Bradbury himself disdained the 'science fiction' label preferring to be referred to as a 'fantasy' writer.

I finished 'Deadlocked' by Charlaine Harris. It is part of the book series that 'True Blood' on HBO is based on. In general, the book series has been tolerable but strictly average, save for book 1. This was book 12, probably the 3rd or 4th best in the series. If you are not a hardcore True Blood fan (or otherwise have to read it) I wouldn't bother with it.
I'm now reading 'A Game Of Thrones' in the A Song of Ice and Fire book series by George R.R. Martin.
I finished books #2 (A Clash of Kings) and #3 (A Storm of Swords) in the series and am now going back to 'catch up.' I'm quite reluctant to start book #4 as I've heard that the enjoyment factor diminishes as the story gets bloated--that would stick a pin in my balloon as I've enjoyed the books immensely thus far.

 

A History of the World in 6 Glasses...an entertaining examination of how beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola helped shape human history.

mmm, let's see. I also read Deadlocked. It was all right. I was sort of pissed about the ending. (for the record, I don't like True Blood. I've read all the Southern Vampire Mysteries books, though.)

I read a Chelsea Handler book, because I was drawn to the title: Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea. I don't think I've ever seen her show, and I'm willing to bet that if I had, I wouldn't have picked up the book. Two or three parts made me laugh, but mostly, I just felt awkward and vaguely uncomfortable.

And now, I'm reading Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling. I'd never heard of her, but I read a preview of the book that made me giggle a bit. Apparently she's a writer for "the Office." I'm so far enjoying it immensely more than Ms. Handler's attempt.

 

The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J R Ward.

There is something about bad boy vampires. Team Zhadist all the way.

 

Just finished Ready Player One, and found it extremely entertaining. Not only were there TONS of 80s references, it was also really geeky, and my hometown was mentioned.

the last book i read was "we make mud" by peter markus. which is brilliant.

right now i'm editing a chapter of my dissertation for the book version. i am not enjoying it. maybe other people will enjoy it later, but right now, myself, i am not enjoying it.

 

I really enjoyed this series - I have all 7 books almost in my grasp - I would have to move the chair about 2 metres to grab them.

I just finished the Misborn series by Brandon Sanderson. To those that don't know, he's the author who's finishing (finished?) Robert Jordans Wheel of Time series. I thoroughly enjoyed the Mistborn books.

Im now reading World War Z by Max Brooks and it's great. Although I probably shouldn't be reading a book about zombies because our new house makes all these noises that I'm not used to. So I keep going downstairs thinking a zombie is in my garage. It doesn't help that my dog is a big sissy like me and is barking at the same noises.

 

I love the Mistborn series. So much.

Recently finished Bossypants (I love you, Tina Fey.) Am now almost halfway through Son of a Witch, the sequel to Wicked. I still like Gregory Maguire, but part of the reason I liked Wicked so much was because of Elphaba & Boq...who are not in the sequel.

 

I just started The Breach by Patrick Lee. I'm having trouble putting it down.
