I'm, currently, reading a Biography of Adolph Hitler. I not at home, so I can't tell you the author, but it's over 1200 pages, and recreates, seemingly, every conversation, and every emotion he had throughout the war. It was written, in the 70's, so some eyewitnesses were still alive, to be interviewed. Interesting, but it is a commitment!

I'm about halfway through so far. Really good post earth, other planet but non sci-fi series.

Scalzi is awesome. Once you finish that series, you should try Little Fuzzy. Great retelling of an old story.

The middle books of the series are a bit of a slog, but it's worth it when you get back into the action. Can't wait for the next one.

The third book isn't bad. The fourth is a dog's breakfast, while the fifth is an attempt at redemption that has a good beginning and a good end with a whole bunch of "why is this all in here?" in the middle.

Between A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons, Martin could have used a severe and uncompromising editor. Though I think the issue is that they were desperate to get him to produce something. The result is a too-long novel fragmented into two overwritten and misplotted monstrosities that I hope get redeemed by a fantastic conclusion over the next two books.

i heard you should. or better yet, just read Battle Royale by that one japanese dude. it's where the "people kill each other on an island, last one lives, leaves" idea originated

Maybe in this particular iteration, but the idea of humans "hunting" humans on an island dates back to the early 20th century at least.

Our recent rental of TinTin got us wondering what Andy Serkus is working on and a search of him on IDBM brought up the The Hobbit trailers. So, I'm re-reading The Hobbit for the first time in about 25 years.
