Starting with the Lion etc, is like starting LoTR at Rivendel.

Yeah. This is his newest installment in the adventures of Richard and Kahlan. Not his best. But not bad.

Good for you. The Space Trilogy was his best work. I found the "Narnia" books to be uncompellingly written and highly offputting, as essentially kiddie evangelical tracts.

Finished the Goodkind book...turned out to be slightly better than it promised at the beginning, but he has a real tendency to end abruptly, when he doesn't end on cliffhangers.

Now on to the new "Mistborn" book from Brian Sanderson.

 

I've read through all 14 pages of this... I'm taking notes on what to read!

One of my "New Year's Resolutions" is to read at least one new book per month that I've never read before, so this is going to help a lot.

On my to-read list includes finishing up a series that I've been reading since middle school (The Seventh Tower series by Garth Nix... yeah, I'm a kid at heart). I also want to read 1984, Catch-22, and all of the LoTR series, starting with The Hobbit. I also want to read *something* by Stephen King at some point, but I haven't quite decided what yet.

 

Go with The Stand. I didn't read anything else by him for a Decade after that one because he will NEVER top it. And get the Unabridged version.

 

The Stand is definitely awesome. My favorite by him, though, is The Eyes of the Dragon, which is not a typical book for him at all. Oh, there's still horror, but it's more fantasy-themed. If you don't want to tackle one of his novels right off, check out his short stories. Some of those have stuck with me twenty years after reading them ("The Last Rung on the Ladder" and "The Jaunt," for examples.)

I recently finished the Hunger Games trilogy. I'm about halfway through The Help at the moment.

No. No, no, no, a million times NO. Wardrobe comes first, Nephew is sixth. You lose out on so much if you read them in "chronological" order.

 

I have to agree with CinnamonGirl...it is better to read them in the order they where intended

 

The Stand is a great read. One of the ultimate post apocalyptic books, I think.

Did Lewis ever suggest a reading order?

The box set I had as a kid put them in narative chronological order, and it was YEARS before I realised that this was not publication order (probably when I read them to my daughter).

I like the idea of reading them in the order that the world would have experienced them, but I get the idea of reading them as written.

 

Catherine The Great by Robert K. Massey. A good read

 

I failed to mention in my other post that I also really want to get into reading some Heinlein. My old roommate from college basically worships the guy, so I'll have to hit him up for suggestions.

 

Right now I'm reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I liked the movie so I thought the book would be equally good. I was wrong. It isn't that good of a book. However I'm almost done. I think I'm going to finish it some time today. Then I'm moving on to The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It was recommended to me. I hope it will be better than my current book.
