It's fine to be down. All of us get down and all of us, at some point or another, are going to whinge about it. Just know that when you do whinge it sounds just as bad as when you hear other people doing it.

Unless it's life threatening... get over it and move on.

Something someone posted elsewhere. I thought it was interesting in light of this thread.

Nice, very nice. My Chief, who is half-Thai and half-Laotian, recently expounded on Buddhism to me, and I sort of felt like I wanted to convert right there. It sounded like all the morals and maybe a little more introspection than any of the Abrahamic religions, minus the sanctimonious dogmatic bullshit and guilt.

I think I'm finally getting close to what will make me happy... :)

Ehhhhh might want to look up buddhism's history and current issues over there before jumping on that fad. It's got just as many skeletons in its closet as any of the abrahamic faiths. Really you don't need to join a religion to learn from the best of it, or anything for that matter. I stand by mine but that doesn't mean I don't draw inspiration from others or even secuar sources of wisdom whenever they make a good point.

Well I'll certainly grant you genuine's ridiculously adorable rugrat gets a smile. I think if the little critter was any sweeter I'd have diabetes.

Oh I wasn't being literal about actually converting or joining it, more that it just really piqued my interest because I just didn't know much about it before and had only seen the stereotypical media images about old monks meditating on mountain-tops. My entire life philosophy is an ever-changing patchwork tapestry of varying religious, secular, and philosophical views and observations. I tend to try and pick out the most functional bits and live by them, while avoiding bloated tedious dogma and trying not to be tempted into irrationality or Pascal's Wager.

Funny (to me). At age 17, I put this down in my senior year yearbook as my goal in life. Other kids had lofty ambitions (PhD-ish) or none (smoke a lot of dope).
Overall, I figured out what makes me happy. Ultimately, as a grown-up, it is my choice.

Haha I wasn't going to be so blunt - on the intarnet, them's fightin' words, and degeneration into yet another heated internet debate about the, relevancy, possible obsolescence, and the merits-versus-shortcomings of religion is usually the death-knell of any thread. I tend to save those kinds of arguments for hilarious YouTube comments section battles with rabid, frothy-mouthed strangers.

It makes much more sense to be a Buddhist atheist than a Christian atheist, in my experience.

The baggage can be left behind.

No. Partly due to my personal stance and partly due to one aspect of Buddhism that rejects a personal or creator god (it basically has no use for one).
