Hot tea, blend of green & black. It's cheap, and doctored my way.

    @Baraka_Guru wouldn't like it. Eh.

Very hoppy, a little bitter, got a sort of grapefruit finish. At 9% ABV , definitely not what I would consider a "session" beverage.

I received a 12 pack of a variety of Michigan brews for Father's Day. A few I have had before, but most are outside of my personal choices. There was a kolsch and a Scottish ale, which were new to me. Liked those. Bell's lager didn't impress, but my taste runs more toward ales.

A lot of people go crazy for Bell's and Founders, but I think New Holland and Atwater are among the finest brewers in the country.

  5. First up tonight: Sundog amber ale, New Holland. I like ambers.[IMG]

One part diet tonic water, three parts diet lemon lime soda, & a couple of generous squirts of lemon juice.

What I'd really enjoy, but ain't gonna:

A tall slender glass filled with plenty of ice.
Two parts cold diet tonic water (fresh for maximum fizz).
One part cold vodka (Grey Goose would do nicely). I wouldn't turn down Bombay Sapphire gin.
Two or three squeezed wedges of lemon and/or lime.

Tonight's first treat is from OddSide Ales: Bean Flicker. It's a blonde ale with coffee. My initial impression is that it's quite smooth. Not bad.

Got a Citra Ale, also from OddSide, if I feel like another this evening.

Abita Strawberry. Because vacation starts tomorrow afternoon.

  12. Not a fan of fruit infused brews. That Citra reinforced that notion.

Today has been gloomy and wearing and my thoughts have turned dark. Oatmeal Stout... The Poet to be precise. Delicious.

Citra is the hop varietal. It does have a citrus-forward flavor, tending towards grapefruit, though I would argue Cascade can be just as grapefruity in certain beers, and especially as a dry hop.

I brewed a single hopped citra double ipa and it was a huge grapefruit bomb. I loved it. I may do another batch with the same recipe but also toss some grapefruit during dry hopping to accentuate it.

On a side note, I love the taste of simcoe hops but they smell so bad I can't use them in something I make.

  15. Appreciate the education. I actually enjoy a lightly fruity finishing note in certain beers. But this one smashes you in the tongue with a heavy handed sourness (?) that turned me off to it. They tout "juicy tropical notes" on the label and the flavor is more fruit than ale, to my heathen pallet.

When I go shopping I'm going to get some ginger beer (think root beer, not beer beer) made in Jamaica.
