I recall reading somewhere that women with larger breasts and relatively small waists are generally more fertile. I have also sat through more than one lecture analyzing the sexual and evolutionary implications of a low waist-to-hip ratio. (In other words, Sir Mix-a-Lot was onto something.)

What you're referring to is called skinship. Physical intimacy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia While the bit in Wikipedia specifically looks at it within the context of Japanese culture, it's true in our culture too. Gloria Steinem wrote a wonderful essay, published in the collection Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions, titled "In Praise of Women's Bodies" that talks about how skinship can evolve between women in the locker room. I think seeing a diversity of bodies helps us be comfortable in our own. One of my favorite things in college was to sauna nude with my female friends at the university rec center.
