Leaving the cruise ship to enter Cozumel, Mexico for the day. I was staying in the ship to our right and the ship to the left is another cruise ship. About 4 cruise ships go to the same ports so there were a lot of people in one area at the same time.

I spent most of my time in Mexico in a dark cave with 6 women (sounds like a porn movie doesn't it?)

Stayed in Tampa for several nights before the cruise so I went on a Busch Gardens Night safarai where they provided alcohol before and after the tour. This is the closest I have ever been to a giraffe and I gave her roman lettuce for a snack. She was friendly, but I didn't want to spook her at night.

Brand spanking new bike racks have been installed at the hospital where I work, near the main entrance for public use! They're not sheltered from the elements and that sucks a little, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't extremely excited by this development.

These are brand new in this area. The hospital's existing racks are in the original wing of the parking garage, on the ground floor, near the exit to the garage that is closest to the employee entrance, and a considerable distance from the main entrance to the hospital. So not only does the public likely not know about their existence or location, but they are also hard to get to and aren't even currently bolted to the ground. Additionally, the type of rack they are can damage bicycle wheels and are widely considered to be among the worst types in use.

The plans for the garage expansion, in accordance with city policy, required that bike parking facilities be proportionally expanded to the number of additional car spaces. So my understanding is that more racks like the U-shaped ones in the picture above (currently considered the best design for both security and functionality) will be installed throughout the garage. I haven't seen any yet, but I also haven't been in the rest of the garage since the expansion started, so I'll have to investigate next week.

I thought our long walk had tired him out.

Then I turn around and he's done this:

I guess he felt that bush was unnecessary for the landscaping...

Lafayette coneys are the most perfect hot dogs in the entire world. And I will fight to defend that.

Found in a public library local history room: a Republican ticket from 1880.

Before the government got into the business of printing ballots, we had "ticket voting." You'd get a "ticket" like this from someone representing your political party, and drop the ticket into the ballot box.

In most states, ticket voting ended in 1888, with the sudden widespread adoption of what was then called the "Australian ballot," that is, government printed ballots that were all the same and listed all the party nominees. The concept of a "secret ballot" dates from that time.
