I had to do this as well, Lordeden cleverly digitally removed the main computer that runs the whole shop before posting it. Talk about hot PC DOS 2.0 action.

 

My collection from my friends over the years. They make me happy, even though I'm an adult.

 

My friend's fiancé came along with us on the shop ride tonight and was riding at the rear of a paceline heading back into town.
Each one of us was lit up like a Christmas tree, and we road two abreast taking the lane to dissuade car drivers from trying to overtake us within the same lane, which wasn't wide enough to accommodate both car and bicycle.

I was riding at the front of the group with another woman when I heard a sharp "crack" behind me. Immediately I thought someone's tire had burst and circled back to see what had happened, finding instead my friend's fiancé lying on the ground with his bike beside him, its rear wheel destroyed.

A sixteen year old high school student hit him from behind, claiming that he'd veered into her path from beside the curb (not true) and that she'd seen all of us riding as a group on the sidewalk (also not true). I understand she was shaken up by the incident, but there's little doubt in my mind, or the minds of my fellow riders, that she was driving distracted—texting, maybe—before she hit him.



He's lucky his rear wheel took most of the impact. He's lucky he was wearing a helmet that, now destroyed, probably saved his noggin. His worst injury, barring possible fractures to his pelvis and ribs, will likely be his saddle literally tearing him a new asshole. I hope that will earn him plentiful painkillers.

Hang up and drive, people. Please.

My thoughts exactly. I haven't begun to ride this year, yet, but soon. So many close calls each year. The most frequent 'near miss' is someone on a cell phone rolling through a stop sign, oblivious to the world.
