I just wonder what will happen when the liberals inside the government resist and obstruct. The problem is that there are way too many anti-government conservatives working at the agencies.

    I haven't seen them...and I've worked in quite a few.

    Speaking of which...
Trump wants to kill these 15 agencies. Here's how much they cost, and what they do
"saves" millions...yet his proposed tax cuts and spending will costing be TRILLIONS over the next 8 years.

This is a bit personal for me, since I work at one of the agencies listed. (and another is right next door)

Thank God, I'm looking for a new gig already...geez
Don't plan on being there when the lights go out.

My Republican parents just received a robocall from the new president asking for a donation towards his effort to get congress to appropriate the funds needed for his repulsive executive orders. He promised to send a sticker in return. Is this weird for an executive branch official to do, let alone a president? Could unofficially collected money even be put towards this specific cause? I can't find any reports about this campaign online.

I'm considering that it might have been a scammer who isn't president, but it sounded very convincing.

If The Donald is behind it, it sounds unethical at least, illegal at worst.

    Somehow, he's worse than that.

Today, on Holocaust Remembrance Day, the total fucking monster who calls himself president signed an executive order to shut down the US refugee admissions program. And to add injustice to atrocity, the order preferentially restricts any future refugees from Muslim-majority countries to non-Muslims only. Today more than any other day, he should bear in mind the tragic consequences of United States immigration law having discriminated against Jewish refugees attempting to escape further violence and turmoil in the aftermath of World War II. And yet, he moved to repeat exactly this shameful historic failure of compassion on the one day he should be most conscious of it.

Then, in an act of outrageous duplicity, he publicly pledged in remembrance of the holocaust "to ensure that the forces of evil never again defeat the powers of good."

Fuck you, asshole. You've advanced forces of evil farther in one week than perhaps any other American has in the past decade.

A federal court in Brooklyn challenged the immigration discrimination order last night, prompting all foreign nationals detained in response to the order while in transit to be released.

The order will also be challenged for violating the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act and the religious nondiscrimination established by the first amendment.

Until then, we have a stark reminder on Twitter of the fate assigned to the 900 Jewish refugees who fled Nazi Germany aboard the MS St. Louis and who were turned away by Cuba, the US, and then Canada, only to be accepted by France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The Donald vs. The Pope

And forget about all the people he *annoyed* with his middle east immigration ban...

Should be an interesting fight...the one with the pope. *grabs popcorn*

** the ban should resolve itself after the courts, scared GOP and protesters are finished tearing into him...

The problem seems to be that the Pope doesn't have any control over the evangelical followers and prosperity gospel people who want money and the US to be a "Christian" nation.

I was expecting to see a lot more of these issues go through Congress and then get the rubber stamp from Trump and the people who are telling him what to do. I didn't think he was going to become an executive order dictator. It is one thing if you have a divided Congress and Presidency with things that need to get done. It's another to rule by decree with no checks and balances.

I fully expected the The Donald to (ab)use executive orders, he's too used to having his way.

The question is how long Congress will allow him to gain power...even the GOP doesn't want him to do that.

The State Department has a mechanism called the Dissent Channel (Foreign Affairs Manual) through which career diplomats and other employees can "express dissenting or alternative views on substantive issues of policy, in a manner which ensures serious, high-level review and response" without fear of reprisal.

    From the NY Times today:
By comparison, about 50 State Department officials opposed Obama's Syrian policy using the Dissent Channel.
