...why the fuck would you request a second passport after getting into this mess?

I mean, two passports is a good idea. Perfectly lawful for every US citizen.

Just not right after you've made national headlines in a bad way.

I'm wondering if they confiscated the original when he first got the bond posted or he was concerned that they would at some point. Did he pursue and obtain the second prior to his original arrest or after bond was posted?

The fact that they kept the 2nd passport hidden and were hoping to tuck the money away safely as well, suggests to me that the plan was to leave the country with the 2nd passport and the cash. He waited too long, obviously. Greedy enough to hang in there and see how much more in donations he could get before his trial date.

Running out a posted bond? It would have made for a great "Dog the Bounty Hunter" episode.

    Thanks.

Now I'm having fantasies of Dog the Bounty Hunter, Deputy Sheriff Steven Segal, and fake Texas Ranger Chuck Norris all teaming up to bring this punk down.

Haven't heard anything. He's got 48 hours. If I were him I'd be eating a nice meal and getting laid (heterosexually that is) repeatedly before I turned myself over to my lawyer at the last minute. Of course I seriously doubt I'd have shot someone after being told by dispatch to remain in my vehicle so what he'd do and what I'd do might not be the same thing.

Dawg's been cancelled... thankfully. Now if we could just get rid of a bunch of "Real Housewives" and all the Kardashians the world would once again be sane or at least our alien overlords would have one less reason to invade and destroy Earth.

So, did he get the 2nd before the confiscation of the 1st or after? If after, doesn't the State Dept do criminal checks or at least make inquiries into the status of originals, even in cases where the applicant is not one of America's most notorious media darlings?

I had two but was recently burglarized. As soon as the Consul here processes my application I'll again have two. For the time being I have one and a little card that says I have one and my application is in processing.

Maybe this is something mainly taught to military personnel?

You mean 2-is-1, 1-is-0 logic? IIRC, US military personnel do not need a passport to travel when they are on orders.

I deployed to both theaters of boredom thanks to a piece of 8.5"x11". I didn't get a passport until years after I got out.

I had a passport issue to me when I was active duty. I was also told to get a back-up, for which I would have to pay. Some places my ship visited we didn't need a passport our Mil-ID was fine. Other places we had to go through customs just like merchant marines and cruise ship passengers. The whole thing seemed completely dependent on how friendly to the US and the port country were. I remember docking in New Caledonia in the South Pacific with crowds of people chanting "no nukes here!" To my knowledge (officially ) we had no nukes. We went through customs there and it took for ever, think I ws in line for 3 hours. When we pulled into Darwin Aus. there were crowds of young women on the pier yelling "throw me your hat!" I asked a Sr. Chief why the heck they wanted our hats? "It has you name in it, who ever catches it is your date tonight." Hello. I looked around and tired to make sure I didn't toss my hat to some, well, less then attractive lady. We were 100ft above the pier so aiming was difficult. Luckily all the ladies looked damn fine. I ended up spending a week solid with a nice lady who had a pool and rather large porn/toy collection. After that week I spent 3 days at her house and 1 day on the ship on duty for nearly a month. We didn't go through customs there but many guys went AWOL.

So, basically, I didn't need a passport because my experience in the military was a sausage fest.

    ...

Anybody spot any good Zimmerman memes? I feel like there needs to be a secret agent one.

Well looks like right at 40mins prior to the deadline Zimmerman turned himself in. If he's wise he spent the last 47 hours getting some good living. The news of his money shuffling and sudden dual passports can not be unheard by potential jurors.

I think, from what I found with a quick "the google" search, she's more likely to see about 3 yrs. unless she has priors. But looks like the same prosecutor requested the arrest so I doubt she'll be getting any great deals offered.

I can't figure out what these people were thinking. It's like they didn't realize their case had national attention and thought no one would check every detail of their public/court statements. Fail.

Yea. That article misquotes the applicable law. It's a 3rd degree felony which carries a 5 year max. She'll likely receive far less than that.

    ...but why a Kel-Tec? I mean, that's like robbing a bank with a pitchfork.

They don't even do that shit in Canada.

So the difference is because George is not charged with a capital case?

Well either way she won't see much time for it but I'd bet the judge is not happy. In custody time might be zip but community service might eat up a lot of her free time in the not too distant future.
