Tips to Make Everyday Tasks More Bearable

I keep the dirty clothes in a conspicuous place (for me) rather than a hamper or in the utility room. I've conditioned myself that when the pile is a certain size, I just get it done, folded, and put away. Dishes are part of the end of day ritual. They get piled into the dishwasher after the last meal. Once the machine is reasonably full, they get washed overnight. I used to run the dishwasher every night, then my girlfriend, who is in the energy industry, told me it was running up my electric bill unnecessarily.

I can shove it in the machine....easy.
I enjoy putting it on the washing line...... easy, I talk to my chickens when I do it.
I love putting it in the dryer... a joy.
I HATE PUTTING IT AWAY AND IRONING MAKES ME COME OUT IN A RASH !!!!!!!!!!!!
well it doesn't really but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
There is no difference in the workload of household chores since hubby left as he didn't do anything anyway, but putting the smelly bins out this morning made me retch.
My kids know how to use the washing machine and know how to iron, I taught them early :D
I tend to be a blitzer, usually on a friday night so the weekend is free for me to do fun things. I can clean the whole house top to bottom in just a few hours on a Friday, but if I leave it till saturday I tend to take the rest of the weekend to finish as my motivation has left the building.
I would love a cleaner but can't afford one, or even just someone to do the washing and ironing. But until I win the lottery I will just have to keep on slugging away. :(.

I am considering this, although yesterday when he did the laundry marathon, he did fold my pants and put away my shirts, so all I had to do was put away my pants, underwear, and socks. It wasn't as bad as it usually is when he goes on a laundry spree. He even rolled up my ribbed tanks nicely and hung all my shirts the same direction (someone's been paying attention).

Uh, I don't understand why everybody waits until Friday to do their chores. That seems way counterproductive (said day is the end of your normal work routine if you're a rat racer) as well as making it easy to ignore your rather-put-'em-off chores due to social calls. I don't know about you guys, but I find myself going out on the weekends, particularly on Friday when everybody is ready to tear off their work attire like a warm-up in a rap video and hit the nearest establishment that will serve them delicious piss-colored alcoholic beverages in tall, tall glasses. If you don't have enough discipline to do the shit during the work week, what makes you think Friday is gonna happen? You have to train yourself to do it with your other M-R tasks.

My priorities for Friday are get tipsy and do something to the current girlfriend that they can't show on HBO. Are you guys really doing chores?

You toss in a red T shirt with your wife's underwear one time and you get banished from washing them for life. Works for me.

I don't buy clothes that require convoluted care, if my wife does, she can deal with it.

I do smaller loads of laundry multiple times each week.

I gather clothes from around the house as I walk downstairs for breakfast and I put a load of laundry in the washer as I leave for school. I then put the clothes in the dryer when I come home (5 or 6pm). I hang up any permanent press dress shirts after 15-20 minutes in the dryer, since they tend to get a little wrinkly-looking if they dry completely. The hassle is minimal since it usually means I can skip an iron. By the time I'm done cooking/eating dinner in the evening the rest is ready to come out of the dryer. I have a large empty table next to the dryer that I use for folding (it comes in handy for sewing projects). I fold the laundry while it is still warm so it doesn't have a chance to wrinkle. We have exposed pipes in our basement, which serve as an excellent hanger rack. My husband is pretty good about noticing clean laundry, he will carry it upstairs if he sees it folded/hanging neatly.

Since it doesn't have a chance to pile up, the laundry doesn't become an intimidating mountain. Every once in a while I'll have a busy week and forget about laundry until the weekend, at which point I'll have a marathon washing/drying/folding experience. This usually serves as a reminder of why I normally break the task up into smaller doses. Also, I don't know about your husband, but my man's clothes come out smelling fresher when they are done in smaller loads.

I do my chores on Friday, personally, because it's my day off from class. I get my laundry done before 11 am, and while that's being done I clean house. It also means I have the laundry room to myself - if I wait to do laundry on the weekend or in the evening during the week, there is a greater likelihood of having to turn around and come back with a full hamper because all of the machines are in use.

If I had a washer and dryer in my apartment, I'd be doing laundry in smaller amounts through the week.

As to the day, my laundry chore is usually accomplished on Sunday evenings, owing to Fri and Sat nites being otherwise occupied with more interesting activities. Sunday evenings I'm usually just chilling and otherwise prepping for Monday, which requires clean work clothes.

I can only do smaller loads if I'm home to supervise them--since we share laundry facilities with my parents at the moment, I can't leave wet loads in the washer. Otherwise, my mother will switch them over and I'll get an earful from my husband about my mom doing work for me.

I think what I have to start doing is begin laundry when I get home from work in the evenings. I can finish a load and get it put away before bed using my homework bribery method as reinforcement.

snowy Yeah, I can see how shared laundry complicates everything. Makes me appreciate having our own washer/dryer. Shared is far better than laundramats though, Tt and I are very happy that those days are over.

Actually, while it is not difficult...and I'm fairly efficient about it.
Dishes & laundry are just painful for me...because you have to do it, again and AGAIN...ad nauseam.

The big one for me is having to vacuum and steam-clean. (we have 3 dogs...and no, I'm not going to rid myself of them)

So I find when doing chores that I don't like...the best thing to do is get into a rhythm.
Once I find that, it is efficient...and it is bareable.

But if you break the rhythm, stop the momentum...it is painful to start again.
