  3. Yesterday, I went to lunch and looked at the thermometer in my car. 70 degrees!

This morning as I came to work, it was 20.

But this good thing happened to me--the car started, the heater worked and I made it to the office just fine.

Sometimes just keeping my head above water with the minutiae of every day life seems an accomplishment. While I'm happy to be well employed at ~62, my new job is a bit overwhelming at times.

As best I can tell, I'm all caught up with all of the things I've promised people that I will do.

Got tiks for a meet & greet for Lez Zeppelin
They're supposed to be one of the best all-female tribute bands.
I'll get to meet them after their very long concert tonight.

I'm guessing you don't follow all of the threads here.

  12. A young man I go to church with has been interested in writing and playing music professionally for quite a long time. He's in his early 20s, and has formed a band that bears his name. I went to hear them play last night at a local casino. I sat through one set, and it was getting late, so I split. I was impressed--they aren't great by any means, but they are just starting, and perform several of his original songs.

I had been telling him for months that I was going to come out to see him, and I would either forget when he was playing (a local restaurant gave him a place to play for awhile) or just couldn't make it. Last night, as they were setting up, I yelled his name, and he looked up. I just waved at him and left him alone. This morning, I had a message of Facebook from him, telling he how much he appreciated that I came to see him.

I told him I enjoyed it, and am looking forward to seeing him a second time.

In my youth I saw many local and regional bands live. Some of the musicians got caught up in the partying scene; most of them were serious about their music and playing well.

Those were my "good old days."

Made a great find while vinyl hunting today.
I always check the CDs after I hit the vinyl racks and found this sweet box set.
It is the Rolling Stones singles from the London years and its the Japanese release which makes the sound quality massively better than what get made here.
A lot of it is in mono just like the songs were released all those years ago.
It was only $40.00, when the going rate is about $200.00.
I'd love to have this on vinyl but for right now this will do just fine.

My NAS that contains everything that I care about crashed. I lost a hard drive and a cpu fan (the cpu fan wouldn't spin back up after I turned it off).

Why is this in good news?

My backups were only a couple of weeks old. Raid 5 allowed the NAS to keep running while I copied over 2 weeks worth of updates. I had a fan and spare hard drive laying around. 45 min with a screwdriver and the NAS is repaired. The array is in the process of rebuilding itself; but is 100% functional and usable in the meantime. I lost nothing.

Gotta love it when technology actually works the way it is supposed to.

Grancey has been really tired a lot lately. So today, I just drove her all around the Alabama countryside so she could sleep in the passenger seat. She looked so incredibly peaceful. So tranquil. We eventually ended up in a little country community that featured a diner inside the gas station, and we both went inside and got the special - a meat and three sides, which included cracklin' cornbread and tea. When we got home, we sat silently on the porch and listened to nature.

    What a beautiful day.

  20. I have several cases going (I am an attorney), and decided to look at one today that I had recently lost on appeal. I was planning on appealing that decision, but thought I had to wait until the final ruling (called a mandate) had been issues. To my shock, I read the rules regarding such and learned that I had until Monday to get my petitions for review filed. So the good thing that happened was that I looked at it today instead of one day next week.
