    I get that.
I think it is part of why they fired the showrunner mid-way through season 2, then made do with the second-in-command for the rest of the season. It does not excuse it, rather highlights a very important part of getting a show right that was falling apart on TWD. He wanted to do the show more like the comics. The powers that be wanted more commercialization--more 'drama'--nobody won (or so it is rumoured).
I love zombies and enjoy the work of two ppl who have little to do with 'story' in the show. Makeup/ special effects master Greg Nicotero and the man who scores the show, Bear McCreary.
I'm not sure that AMC would ever risk going full-on-balls-to-the-wall the way a premium cable show could. Maybe if the show were on premium they'd be able to better interpret the comics.
There's many a show I've tried and just didn't see what other ppl were loving about it. Good on ya that you gave it a spin, mixedmedia!

Oh, I've no doubt I will watch the show til the end. I'm kind of compulsive like that if I make it through more than one season. For instance, I also watched Weeds season 7 or 8 or whatever it was that showed up on Netflix a couple of weeks ago just because I couldn't not watch it...even though I had kind of given up on liking it anymore a couple of seasons back.

SEASON 3 PHOTO STILLS from The Walking Dead:

Daryl's brother Merle, sporting the prosthetic hand in place of the one he sawed off in season 1 in order to escape from being handcuffed to an Atlanta building's roof top. Rick had put him in the cuffs because Merle was strung out, threatening w/ a gun and beating on people. T-Dog lost the keys. Should be interesting if the survivors meet up with him. (When they went back for him, he was gone).

This is a shot of Andrea (Laurie Holden) from episode 8 (!) which is the half-season finale. There will be 16 episodes this season and the remaining 8 will air in 2013 (in the spring, I think).
Anyway, during 'Barnageddon' in the season 2 finale she got separated from the group and was saved by the new character 'Michonne,' a katana-weilding badass who drags these guys (below), her former boyfriend and her brother (in the comics), around with her.

Still? This is the first episode with this actress!?

Poor Hershel. I called it on my website but it was too easy given the similarity to the comic (old guy gets bitten and has leg amputated on the spot).

Try Van Wilder 2. Gotta luv Google... ;)

I liked it...action oriented, ruthless...they're getting better at killing walkers.
But they're still doing stupid tactics at times...putting their more valuable people at risk. (Duh)

Shit, by now I'd just have a policy of stabbing any dead in the head...moving or not.

If the baby is dead now...it's a zombie now...and Lori would not be complaining...it would have carved it's way out.
If it dies in childbirth...then a quick bullet to the noggin if it turns.

Good episode, excellent direction by Ernest Dickerson.
In news that I'm finding either suspiciously foiler-like or just plain surprising, the Governor is not going to be the Governor of the comics, despite earlier assurances that he would be. This Governor is being sold as 'the early version.' He is not going to be chopping off limbs or brutally raping--yet, anyway. As they put it, he will 'evolve.'

Here's a photo from next week: I don't know the answer to this, so it is not a spoiler:
Question: Do you think T-Dog has his gun pointed at a human or a walker?

The Walking Dead - Meet the Inmates
SPOILER ALERT: Continue reading only if you have already watched Sunday’s season premiere of The Walking Dead. Seriously, stop right now if you haven't. Read on at your own risk!] After Rick and Co. infiltrated a prison and narrowly escaped an angry horde of flesh eaters, they looked up to see the biggest shock of all — a group of five humans. Who are they and what is their story? We went to main man in charge, showrunner Glen Mazzara, for answers.

As you may have guessed — from their presence in the comic book storyline on which the show is based, as well as the location — the five new individuals Daryl trained his crossbow on in the final scene are indeed convicts who have survived the apocalypse. And while some of them (Axel and Andrew) do share names with prisoners from the comic book, others (Tomas, Oscar, Big Tiny) do not.

“We changed some of these names around,” says Mazzara. “There was a Dexter in the book. Obviously there’s a TV show named Dexter so we changed some of the names to feel more specific to this show.” Here’s a photo identifying all five inmates, plus more from Mazzara on the prisoners’ backstory and individual notes on each character.

From left to right: Big Tiny (Theodus Crane), Oscar (Vincent Ward), Axel (Lew Temple), Andrew (Markice Moore) and Tomas (Nick Gomez)

This group of prisoners saw the outbreak happen in their prison almost a year ago and guards were turning on prisoners and prisoners were tuning on guards,” says Mazzara. “Imagine a zombie movie set in a prison. These are the sole survivors of that movie. And they’ve been locked up with each other for almost a year, and now suddenly they’re freed by Rick and Daryl and the group and have had no idea what’s happened to the rest of the world. Part of our thinking was, there were so many people during the Katrina disaster that were trapped. There was this one hospital where people were trapped and just waiting for help. That’s who these guys are. They’ve been waiting almost a year for help. And help never arrives. And they end up meeting Rick and the group and being set free and they have no idea what’s happened out there in the larger world, so in a way they are sort of like Rip Van Winkle waking up in the middle of a horrible apocalyptic nightmare.”

Here’s what Mazzara has to say about each of the individual characters:

    Tomas (played by Nick Gomez)
“Tomas is the leader. Tomas is the alpha male. He’s the one who is in charge and he is the one who has set the rules and he did before the apocalypse, he’s been doing that since, and suddenly, here’s Rick telling him, ‘This isn’t even your prison any more.’ Tomas is not going to stand for that.”

    Andrew (played by Markice Moore)
“Andrew is really Tomas’ right hand man. These guys are really the ones who have been intimidating Axel and Oscar.”

    Axel (played by Lew Temple)
“Axel is a great character. He’s someone who was probably a two-bit criminal who finds himself in a bigger mess. He’s probably happy to be freed by Rick because he realizes he’s not as cutthroat as Tomas and Andrew.”

    Oscar (played by Vincent Ward)
“Oscar is another guy who has had to go along with Tomas’ rule.”

Big Tiny (played by Theodus Crane)
“Big Tiny is the muscle of the group. The idea was that all of these guys together are a formidable force. These are hardened convicts who have survived living together for almost a year, almost in the same way that Rick and his group have. So this is a surprising force for Rick to come up against. And they are formidable. And they are scary. And they are dangerous. Just as dangerous as Rick’s group.”
