A week off did me some good. Squatted 405 for 5. A little shaky, but felt like I could, in the near future, start going up in weight from there. The high bar squats are requiring more stabilization from my core, but my elbows and shoulders like them so much better. Gonna stick with them from now on, I think.

Gym day, we missed one last week so whole house is ready to go. As of this morning I can SEE my abs *blinks* I mean there is still a layer of fat over them but they are there and we will find each other! How my arms are remaining jiggly is boggling the mind. So frustrating, I have strength but am going to have change diet to do something about the fat, or skin, or something. =/ Need to go down a bra band size (and hopefully a cup size), but going to wait on getting new bras until just before New Year. Can't wait to lift those weights today! :D

Had a good leg workout today. Squatted 315x6, 365x5, 385x2, then 405 for a single. I squatted 385x2 near the beginning of the year, but I had not squatted 405 in several years. Started my day off right.

Benched 340 for 10 reps, solid, last night. Not bad for an old fat guy. This is especially nice since Monday night I developed a migraine during squats and had to leave without finishing.

Did 35 minutes of cardio last night & this morning, burned about 450 cals.

Last night did dumbbell flies 25#/12 reps each side, machine rows 60#/12 reps, dumbbell front raises 15#/12 reps each side, triceps extension 35#/12 reps, dumbbell curls, 15#/12 reps each side, 80#/12 leg press, 60#/12 calf press, and leg raises, 15 reps. 3 sets of each.

Weight down from 225 to 191, 6 pounds from goal, but I may keep going into the high 170's low 180's.

Question about compression gear... over on fet in the bodybuilding forum there is a conversation about the merits of compression shirts, pants, and shorts for reducing joint pain and such after weight training. Have you ever tried any of those? If so did you notice an improvement in swelling and or pain?

Gym day thank the stars, I need to lift and swim.

Well, good news, bad news. Physical went well, all my numbers are great. But damn over 250# again. Can't win. Back to it, I guess.

By the way, I use elbow and knee sleeves and they do help. Not sure about compression shirts. I get claustrophobic in tight shirts.

    fantastic.

I need to get back at it. With this deep freeze, I've done no cardio as it's been too dangerous to run outside. My target weight is 168 (according to those lying doctor's charts) but I'm sticking with my comfortable weight of 178. Hovering around 184 now, so need to run.

I'm down to 186, basically doing daily cardio on the elliptical (35 minutes, burning about 410 calories) and lifting twice a week (Monday & Thursday, when I don't have the kid). I base my target zone on Kavronen's formula (I'm 57 & my resting rate is about 55), so my range is 129- 152. I pretty much stay in it, but I sometimes peak at 155 and end with a sprint that puts me at 160 or so.

  11. I have gained back the weight I lost this summer. The gym on campus is overrun with 1) NY Resolutions and 2) the students are back for winter term. I will be waiting until things die down. Until then, it's diet and walking around the track outside....

My Gold's Gym just went 24 hours

Gotta take advantage of this, since I'm often a vampire.

** I hate the word, insomnia...because I don't think I have it...it's just different sleeping patterns and cycles to me.

BTW...I have a lot to work on...gained WAY too much during my travels and having fun this holiday season.
And this is dangerous for me (considering my heritage)

Gotta get off my ass and get into the gym.
But the cold, work and college ain't helping.
However, Mother Nature can give a flying crap about your "legit reasons"...y'gotta do it. No matter what.

and so...need to figure out how to do the deed...despite my need to just sit on my ass.

** Oh Yeah...another hindrance...my left knee is still healing, after hyper-extending it in late November...gave way during a simple line dance at New Years.
So no Kung Fu for this kid...or running or, or, or
    Fuck my body sometimes.

But it's no more than any pro has to deal with...you just push forward where you can...get back into shape.
(injuries, pregnancy, tragedy, etc and so on...)
The key is just to keep getting up and getting in there.

And so the continuing adventure begins again...

hey, that's great. we are basically the same. I'm a year older than you but I should be successful working the same regime. It was great while my fit bit was working, but it got ripped off of my wrist, and snapped in half! (damn Ikea furniture and trying to load it on the roof of the car)

    Freakin' furniture!

Another thing I've been doing is daily fasting. I only eat during the hours of noon & 8pm. While in theory you can eat whatever you want, I stick with whole, unprocessed, organics. I usually get about 1500 calories in. I've been doing that for about 5 days now, I'll let you all know how it works out. So far so good...

Ok... the fasting bit seems a bit extreme to me tho. I get very irascible even if I have to fast for blood work or the colonoscopy procedure. For my last colonoscopy, the doctor was running late, so I told the intake staff that I was going to go to Tim Horton's and 0rder the largest poppy seed bagel I could find if he doesn't hurry up! :)

  16. There's a secret corner and no one is there at 8am. I have found my place and have been there several times already.

I'm not going to lift weights until I can work with someone who can help me with my form. I don't want to injure myself doing things incorrectly. I've asked one of my students if I could hire her as a trainer since she has experience working with people with MS.

Last night I broke down and had a midnight snack, some crackers and a serving of peanuts. Doesn't seem to have harmed me... Down to 185 today.

My old location closed. It was pretty nasty, but it was close and not too crowded. So I started going to the one 12 minutes away. Great equipment, cleaner, crowded as the lies in Trump's head. Enter Vasa Fitness. They started out of Utah and are expanding into Colorado. The newest one is opening maybe a mile from my house, in the Safeway that has been dormant for three years. It won't open until the middle of March, but their preview center is open. If it is true to what is previewed, this place is going to be awesome. 60k square feet. Dumbbells that go to 150 lbs. 6 squat racks. 6 flat bench presses. "Cross functional" area. Etc etc. They are even putting in a 3 lane pool. Cost is a $50 annual fee and $20 a month for each of us. Looks freaking awesome. And did I mention it's about a mile away? There are other gyms close by, but nothing combined everything. Chuze is cheap, but their dumbbells only go to 70 lbs and they don't have free barbells, only 3 Smith machines. Trufit only had 2 squat racks that faced each other. I don't want to watch someone else squat while I am squatting. End up in some sort of fucked up synchronized squat where all I can think of is that that's the face I make while pooping. So needless to say i am very excited about this new place and i cannot wait until it opens.

Had that lingering cough flu that's going around...fortunately it was only a week
But it made me feels slow and out of sorts
That made me sit on my ass

Then I just got a flare up of gout, it decided to hit my knee this time, unusually so.
But it didn't stop me, I got out to the gym anyway.

And my weight is on a downward trend now, bit by little bit. (25-30 lbs to go)
I just need to get 100% again...I've been getting a strange subtle nauseous sensation.
    Find my mojo, my rhythm.

I'll get there, I'm stubborn...not consistent, but stubborn.
