    I love squats. Single-leg split squats are my new favorite.

    Squats achieved: 135 225 315 405 for five reps, then 415 for 13 reps
    I then did a couple of sets on the glute machine and went home... The knee and lower back are not too mad at me for once, though I thought I might pass out. My blood pressure was only 105/67 when I got home. Maybe I need to talk to the doc about getting off the meds now that I'm working out more consistently. woot

    Exercise class very low key yesterday. Temp in Sydney hit 39C (102F), so no running - just an hour of pilates.

    I'm assuming that you drove home, so please drive carefully. Blood pressure is a very useful thing to have, mine is only that low (105/62) in the morning and evenings.

    I made sure to get my breath before driving home. I've noticed that when I get like that, if I try to sing while driving I will start fading out. It's hard not to sing while driving...

    I've been doing more grappling in hapkido class lately. We've been practicing escapes from being pinned. I'm now uncertain what's a tougher workout: that or the kicking and punching in Muay Thai. It's very different. The Muay Thai is about repetitions and footwork, so there is a lot of moving around to keep your heart rate up. With grappling, there is a lot of pulling, pushing, holding, turning, twisting, rolling, etc., so you have muscles of various groups constantly engaged. It's more about muscular endurance with a few hits of power.

    I'm building an appreciation for the "ground game" like they do in MMA/UFC.

    As an aside, I'm beginning to appreciate the beauty of hapkido. When "the way of coordinated energy" comes into play, it's amazing what proper leverage and timing can do to get yourself out of a tough spot. And the number of options available is mind-boggling.

    I ate a cookie yesterday because we had conferences and I ran out of my food before I could go home and eat dinner. It was disgusting. I think eating very few sweets has contributed to this. It was so overwhelmingly sweet, sickeningly so.

    I'm over 20 lbs. down now. I've lost a lot of fat in my thighs. I know it's not muscle loss since I do squats like crazy for my knees. While I know a body fat scale isn't the most accurate measure, mine does consistently report the same metric, so I know I've lost something. According to it, I'm down 9%. My pants agree.

    We just spent four days in Chicago. Had to stay out by O'Hare because all the downtown/loop hotels were full up due to the Chicago Marathon. Mostly the car stayed in the hotel garage and I did a lot more walking than is my habit. Walking stairs if one of my favorite exercises, and we got lots of up the stairs - down the stairs action for the CTA train stops, and general walking around a couple of neighborhoods. I got about an 80/20 compliance on my low carb diet.
    Also got in plenty of cock squats (I've heard that they're good knee exercise;)) in the room at the Rosemont Hilton. That was the most perfect fucking mattress. Firm without being hard, pushing back a little without being bouncy...:D

    Ha ha ha, I was obviously worn out when I typed that: it should have been 315 for 15 reps. I think I'd die if I got 415 for more than one...

    I just done the same squat workout again the Wednesday and barely made the 405 for 5 and gassed out on the back off set. I feel like I'm coming down with something, but no fever. Maybe I've been working out too hard. It happens.

    It's from an hour's worth of a ~110-lb. woman performing z-arm wrist lock takedowns on me.

    In other news, there are two more Muay Thai classes until my grading on Friday to determine whether I advance to Level 2.

    Ive lost quite a bit of weight over the last 3/4 months, on account of becoming type 2 diabetic because of how fat I am.

    June this year I was about 315 lbs

    At the moment I am about 270 lbs

    (so still pretty fat in the scheme of things)

    I know it will sound strange, but try not to lose weight too quickly. It has a nasty habit of rebounding.
    Make sure you are drinking a lot of water, cut out the junk drinks and I hope you are coming around with what you are eating.
    Keep up the good work.

    Actually, there's no research to suggest that "slow and steady" is the way to go. There are a lot of myths surrounding weight loss, and that appears to be one of them. People with a lot of weight to lose often lose weight quickly. Strange Famous, might I suggest you take a look at: Keto Diet | The TFP

    Things that just seem so reasonable that we never put them to the test. Another example is the idea that we get fat because we eat fat, and its obverse that if we didn't eat fat, we wouldn't get fat.

    I went for a half-mile run this morning before work, the weather was beautifully crisp. I need to do mild exercise 3x/week. I have been neglecting my fitness these last few months, and I need to make a concerted effort to do a little more than walk around the track by where I park my car on my way into school each morning. This seems like a great place to get that support, motivation, and accountability.

    Hapkido was hella fun tonight.

    We paired up, where one practiced striking combos + double-leg takedowns, while the other practiced escapes from side control to reverse into a submission.

    We practiced like we wuz GSP.

    I can wear my wedding ring again! I had a silver band I was wearing that's larger than my actual wedding ring, which was sized when I was at my lowest weight (smart/not smart?). Feels nice to have some bling again.
